Chief Executive Officer Kenya Film Commission(KFC) Timothy Owase has said this year's Kalasha International Awards will be different from the others.

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, Owase said this year's Kalasha will not be hosted as an independent product but combine the festival, market and awards.

The event is scheduled for March 27 to 30 and will take place at Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).

"The first two days we will have the Kalasha market and festival then on the final day we will have the awards," the CEO said.

"I am inviting everyone to come and invite all other filmmakers to participate in the event to see to it that we all succeed."

Owase said during the awards, they are looking forward to hosting over 1,000 people and will be awarding over 39 categories in different segments.

"There will be a cash reward during the gala night. I will not however quote the figure," he said.

Owase said when talking about Kalasha International Film and TV Awards, the platform will have exhibitors including but not limited to workshops, and conferences that will enable people to engage.

He said other countries will be able to showcase what they love and a stakeholder forum will allow local producers and film-makers to engage their counterparts from other countries.

"We expect that during the Kalasha market, you will have an opportunity to cut deals and get new partners from other countries and create an avenue for storytelling," Owase said.

He said KFC is committed to developing and promoting the Kenyan Cinema scene.

The CEO also noted that they expect exhibitors at the market and forums where they will have expert opinions coming out.

Owase noted that the film market allows the championing and development of the sector.

"During the Kalasha awards festival, we will have a lined up film showcase that will have films that people have not watched being filmed and premiered during this season," he said.
