KMTC announces scholarships in Community Health Nursing

The government has announced scholarship opportunities for students poor students who wish to pursue a certificate course in Community Health Nursing.

The scholarships are being offered by the Kenya Medical Training College in collaboration with Beyond Zero.

KMTC in a notice has said the scholarship opportunities will commence in March 2024 in the 2023 - 2024 academic year.

KMTC CEO Kelly Oluoch said qualified candidates from selected Arid and Semi-Arid counties, underserved minorities and other vulnerable and marginalized groups will be given top priority.

The two-year- scholarships will be offered at KMTC Kapenguria, Kabarnet, Bomet, Loitoktok, Garissa, Kilifi, Kitui and Msambweni campuses.

To qualify for the scholarships, the candidates must also be willing to serve in their communities upon graduation.

"Applicants are expected to attach a handwritten essay of not more than 200 words explaining why they feel they deserve the scholarships and the contributions they will make to the community upon graduation," Oluoch said.

Those interested in the scholarships should send their applications before February 26.

"Successful applications will receive full scholarships for the duration of the course. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply," Oluoch said.

KMTC has further outlined that the candidates should possess a KCSE Mean Grade of C- or equivalent qualifications, a C- in English or Kiswahili, a C- in Biology and a D+ in either Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry.

This comes even as the government opened the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service.

In a notice on Thursday, KUCCPS announced that the application should be done via the student’s portal student.kuccps.net.

The application is open for placement for students seeking to join Universities, Tvet institutions, KMTC, Teachers Training Colleges and Open University of Kenya.

Those targetted include the KCSE class of 2023 and Form 4 leavers (KCSE 2000 to 2022)

At least 903,260 candidates sat for the papers which began on October 23, 2023 and ended on November 2023.

According to data from the ministry, 899,453 candidates sat for the 2023 KCSE of which 450,554 were male, while 448,899 were females.

The results were released on January 8, 2024, in Eldoret.
