Mutua most travelled CS abroad – survey

He was closely followed by Public Service CS Moses Kuria

Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua is the most travelled government executive abroad, the latest survey by Tifa Research shows.

Mutua, previously in charge of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs ministry was followed by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, formerly of Trade and Industrialisation ministry.

“Given the international nature of his ministerial portfolios, extensive travel is an inherent expectation,” the report said on Mutua’s travels.

Over 2,700 activities for all the cabinet secretaries were analysed. The period ranged from January to December 2023.

The scope of activities analysed covers those published on online news platforms, social media pages of ministries and cabinet secretaries’ social media pages.

Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs CS Salim Mvurya was third followed by National Treasury’s Njuguna Ndung’u.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, also the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs sealed the top five positions.

The survey said there was no documented evidence of foreign trips linked to the roles of Kithure Kindiki (Interior) and Ezekiel Machogu (Education) in 2023.

It said Road CS Kipchumba Murkomen and his Gender counterpart Aisha Jumwa were the least travelled abroad, each accounting for only two per cent of the total trips abroad.

Mutua accounted for 28 per cent of the total international trips by CSs. Kuria accounted for 16 per cent, Mvurya (14 per cent), Ndung’u (13 per cent) and Mudavadi (12 per cent).
