Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has once again criticised the ongoing succession and kingship politics, deeming it premature, ill-advised, and misguided.

Cheruiyot termed the jostling for leadership positions as laughable urging leaders to focus on serving the people instead.

Speaking in Kericho, the senator reprimanded those seeking recognition as kingpins, emphasizing the need for tangible development rather than empty rhetoric.

“Many people including leaders have been nudging me to lend my voice on this issue and perhaps join the bandwagon. We have other important things to do including serving the people who entrusted us with the positions we hold today,” Cheruiyot said.

“I strongly believe the time for such discourse is not yet nigh. At the appropriate time, we shall talk about it boldly and fiercely. For now, let us serve the people and the President to deliver on his mandate.”

Hinting at his political strategy, Cheruiyot narrated his meteoric political journey and expressed determination in his current role as leader of government business in the Senate.

"I am coming slowly, stealthily, calculating every step," he said, highlighting his commitment to delivering on assignments.

Rift Valley region has in the recent past witnessed vigorous political activity from both appointed and elected leaders.

Cheruiyot's statement comes in the wake of a declaration by Emurua Dikir MP Johana Ngeno that no leader should be curtailed from making any political advancement.

“There is no problem with planning,” he said indicating that he is eyeing a bigger position in 2032 once Ruto and Gachagua complete their term.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has also asked leaders from Mt Kenya to cease talking about the 2027 succession politics.

He said that Kenya Kwanza and UDA leaders should focus on development.

Speaking Meru, the DP said some senators are excited and therefore make reckless remarks in the media.

"Wachunge matamshi yao, kwa sababu wengine wakienda kwa ma TV they get excited wanapotea na kuingia kwa mambo yenye haina haja," he said.
