Most parts of the country will be dry this week, the weekly forecast by the Kenya Metrological Department shows.

The seven-day update covering February 6 to February 12 however shows some parts of the country will receive light to moderate rainfall.

They include a few areas in the South Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley.

Some areas in the South-eastern lowlands, the Coast and Northeastern Kenya are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall.

"High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius will be experienced over the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya," the forecast says.

Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley including Nairobi will record occasional cloudiness in the morning, giving way to sunny intervals.

Light to moderate afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over a few places in the respective counties.

They include Nyandarua, Laikipia,Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi.

During the forecast period, temperatures are expected to rise to 29 degrees Celsius in Nairobi during the day, 31 degrees Celsius in Thika and 29 degrees Celsius in Embu.

The temperatures are expected to drop to as low as eight and six degrees Celsius in Laikipia and Nyahururu respectively at night.

Counties in the southeastern lowlands which include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta will record sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

"However, light morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers may occur over few places," the forecast says.

Temperatures in these areas are expected to rise to as high as 35 degrees Celsius in Voi during the day which will ne expected to drop to 18 degrees Celsius at night in Kitui.

The Coast counties of Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale will have sunny days and partly cloudy nights, with light morning and afternoon showers expected over a few places.

Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu and Msabaha will record daytime temperatures ranging between 33 and 34 degrees Celsius with a drop to 24 degrees Celsius at night.

North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo will record extremely high temperatures with the weatherman predicting that Garassa and Mandera will be 38 degrees Celsius.

These counties are predicted to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

"However, light morning rains and afternoon showers are expected over few places during the first half of the forecast period," the forecast says.

North-western Kenya of Turkana and Samburu will also have sunny days and partly cloudy nights.

"However, light morning rains are expected over a few areas bordering South Sudan and Uganda," the forecast shows.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley counties will have sunny mornings with light rains over a few places.

Moderate afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places in these counties.

They include Kisii,Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay,Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot.
