Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti on Friday announced Maziwa ya Mama Milk was distributed to all Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) Centers in Machakos.

While launching the programme, Wavinya said it aims to guarantee regular, weekly access to essential nutritional milk for children across all 40 Wards in Machakos County.

The distribution is intended to take place every Monday and Friday.

"Beyond addressing nutritional requirements, the initiative strives to boost school attendance by providing an incentive for children to stay in school," she said.

She said the program underscores the county's dedication to supporting both the agricultural sector and the educational well-being of its young population.

"I am excited to announce the successful distribution of Maziwa ya Mama to all our ECDEs across the County in the first week since its launch. The joy and energy in the children is all evident in their faces," Wavinay said

"This marks just the beginning! It is a testament to the positive impact on their learning experience which my Government commits to protect and sustain."

The county boss said the program is intended to complement the existing free preschool feeding program in all public ECDE centres.

“Some of us remember the famous ‘maziwa ya nyayo’. I drank Nyayo milk and it was sweet. It didn’t only retain children in school, but also prevented malnutrition among children especially those from arid and semi-arid areas."

The preschool feeding programme dubbed ‘Chakula Tumboni, Masomo Kichwani’ was allocated Sh 30 million began last year and was intended to support over 1160 public ECDEs to feed 35,000 school children in all 40 wards.

The feeding policy was passed by the Machakos County Government which ensures funds are allocated to the feeding programme.
