Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has announced students in his constituency will be fed chapati every last Friday of the month.

In his programme dubbed Masomo Bora, the MP said the students will also be served githeri three days a week, adding rice will also be on the menu.

"Uji and lunch will include githeri and rice. The feeding also includes Saturdays."

Further, Nyoro said 19 schools with enrollment below 100 students will have fees in their first term paid, and receive free school uniforms.

"Schools with remedial or tuition will now be capped at Sh1,000 per month."

Nyoro also announced that the programme has set aside Sh20 million for revision books from the Kiharu NG-CDF.

On the matter of school fees, Nyoro said 15,000 learners will be covered from all the 62-day schools by covering Sh1,000 per term.

Nyoro programme comes at a time when President William Ruto has in June 2023 announced a Sh5 billion to the School Feeding Programme.

This is part of the Kenya Kwanza government's Sh3.6 trillion 2023-24 Budget.

During the 2022 pre-election campaigns, President William Ruto endorsed a proposal to implement a school feeding programme in all public primary schools countrywide.

“It is doable across Kenya. By implementing this programme, our children won't have to go out looking for lunch or even go without food,” Ruto said.
