Postal Corporation of Kenya, popularly known as Posta, successfully distributed 100,000 free copies of the Star newspaper on Tuesday.

Posta laid out an elaborate logistical plan to overcome geographical barriers in the distribution of the paper.

Postmaster General John Tonui noted that the furthest the Star newspaper was delivered was Malindi town in Kilifi county, which is 570km from Nairobi.

“The delivery took about nine hours to Malindi from Nairobi,” he said.

He said the corporation is in the process of harmonising routing and delivery timelines with the needs of the new customer (the Star Newspaper).

Tonui said the corporation has a sufficient fleet of lorries, pick-ups and saloon cars to provide seamless delivery across the country. He said they are capable of hiring/leasing planes and aircrafts on need basis.

“We have leasing agreements with airlines to deliver cargo to far-flung areas. We also have arrangements with boats to make deliveries to places like Mfangano Island in Lake Victoria,” Tonui said.

The Star won a tender late last year to circulate and print MyGov in the Star publication. The paper will print and distribute 100,000 copies of the newspaper to all corners of the country every Tuesday.

MyGov is a government newspaper containing tenders and all government communications, including stories from different ministries.

Readers have been asked to look out for the copies at Huduma Centres, matatus, all public places and Posta offices near them.

In the 2022 elections, IEBC hired the services of Posta as the lead logistics firm to distribute electoral materials.

Posta has a wide network having more than 300 branches distributed throughout the country.

On Tuesday, Tunoi hailed his staff for a good job done, saying they realigned routing schedules to suit the customer’s need.

Posta was also involved in the delivery of the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) 2019 National Census materials countrywide.

It also delivers Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) exam materials on need basis and Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (Kemsa) supplies and Kenya Literature Bureau (KLB) textbooks to all public schools countrywide among others.
