Machogu roots for partnerships to enhance education access

He said the government wants 100 per cent transition from primary to secondary school

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has called for enhanced Public Private Partnerships in the education sector to ensure equal access to learning.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony of the 2024 Wings to Fly at Pangani Girls School on Sunday, the CS assured that the government is committed to ensuring equal access to education.

He said the work of Equity Group is proof that Public Private Partnerships, when structured correctly, can make a significant contribution to the socio-economic agenda of Kenya.

“We urge other partners to join this worthy cause and to support both government and those in the private sector to achieve our goal of 100 per cent transition where all students who sit the KCPE Examination transition to complete their secondary education level,” he said.

Through the Wings to Fly and Elimu Scholarship Programme, over 60,000 beneficiaries have accessed secondary school, transforming not only their lives but those of their families and community.

Further still, through the Equity Leaders Programme, young leaders have transitioned to tertiary institutions both locally and internationally with close to 900 accessing global scholarships in leading universities.

Equity has also worked with partners to facilitate over 3,400 students access technical training through Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

Machogu expressed his gratitude to the Equity Group Foundation for their unwavering commitment to education and empowerment in Kenya.

Over 1,000 beneficiaries of the 2024 Wings to Fly programme from across the 47 counties attended the commissioning ceremony. The beneficiaries were selected from a pool of 56,561 applicants.

Machogu reminded the participants that education is the cornerstone of personal and societal advancement.

“It is a transformative force that not only imparts knowledge but also nurtures critical thinking, creativity and resilience,” he said.

He urged the beneficiaries to cherish the opportunity, saying it is the key that unlocks the doors to a world of possibilities.
