All secondary school students who score grades “B” plain and above in Kajiado will be fully sponsored by the university by the county government.

Governor Joseph Lenku announced on Friday evening when he met 500 former high school and university students his government sponsored from 2019 to 2022.

“I am announcing here today that all those secondary students who will score, grade B (plain) and above will be fully sponsored to pursue a university education,” said Lenku.

He said he is a man in great peace for being part of creating the future generation of leaders in Kajiado County.

“In the next two weeks, the second cohort of the scholarship programme will be announced, even as we continue to give bursaries to other needy students to ensure a 100 per cent transition to secondary school,” Lenku said.

Those who have just completed their sponsored education were picked, four years ago, from all the 25 electoral wards of the county.

“I pride in the success of this huge investment in human capital and I am glad that all the courses done by these students are aligned to the prevailing job opportunities in our economy,” the governor said.

The governor said his government deliberately gave priority to the sectors of health, agriculture, water and ICT in awarding the bursaries, four years ago.

“We have managed this through the conscious effort of raising our allocation for scholarships and bursaries from the Sh40 million we found in 2017 to the Sh150 million we put in this financial year,” Lenku said.
