Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday celebrated his 70 birthday which coincided with the eve of Christmas Day.

The former vice president celebrated 70 years as Kenyans joined others around the globe to prepare to mark the day Jesus Christ was born.

Kalonzo attended a church service at Nairobi Baptist Church on Sunday before his allies threw a lavish birthday party for him.

''This has been a very tough year for many of us, but God has always shown up for us,'' Kalonzo said in his X account.

''Indeed the message that the more time we spend with Jesus, the more our antenna aligns with Him, was especially moving.''

Later some of the Wiper party luminaries surprised Kalonzo with a party day cake at his residence in Karen, Nairobi.

Kathiani MP and deputy minority leader Robert Mbui was among the Wiper big guns who joined Kalonzo during the birthday party at Karen.

Kalonzo was born on December 24, 1953, and served as the tenth Vice-President of Kenya from 2008 to 2013.

Kalonzo served in the government under the late President Daniel Arap Moi as the Secretary of Kenya African National Union party between 1980 and 1988).

He also served as assistant Minister for Works (1986-1988), Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly (1988-1992), Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1993 until 1998 and Minister of Education (1998-2001).

Under the late President Mwai Kibaki, he was Minister of Foreign Affairs again from 2003 to 2004 and then Minister of the Environment from 2004 to 2005.

He was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2007 presidential election, after which he was appointed vice-president by Kibaki in January 2008.
