Marell Academy roars back to life after top candidate scores 416 marks

Marell Academy in Bungoma has bounced back to the limelight after registering exemplary results in the just released Kenya Certificate of Primary Education results.

The institution outshined public schools in Bungoma and led private schools, with the fast candidate scoring 416 marks.

Other private schools that performed well in Bungoma include Lotus Academy in Bukembe, Father Austra Academy in Musikoma and Christ the King School in Bungoma town.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, Marell Schools chief principal David Kang'o, lauded the Institution directors, parents, teachers and candidates for ensuring the school posted stellar results

The school head revealed that in 2023, the school presented 30 candidates who sat for the KCPE exams all of them performed well.

He said out of the 30 candidates, 12 were able to get 400 marks and above.

This year, Kang'o said the school had a target of posting exemplary results attributing it to the hard work and dedication of parents, teachers and candidates.

"We have been in the cold for several years but this year we worked harder to ensure that we bounce back to the limelight," he said.

Kang’o affirmed that they will double their efforts so that the school continues posting exemplary results in the national examinations.

“We have put strategies in place to ensure we improve even much better, we intend to post better results in future,” Kang’o said.

The top scorers at Marell Academy were Dolphin Barasa with 416 marks, Gideon Wamalwa 414, Job Reagan 410, Felisters Shimuli 408 and Naomi Mutheu 404.

However, Kang'o called on the Ministry of Education to consider increasing Form 1 slots to the private schools.

"We have felt that sometimes candidates from private schools do well but when it comes to placement of Form 1 slots we are given few slots out of the national schools," he said.

"Sometimes we don't know the criteria used to select those joining national schools, I believe that with the current leadership, it will be fair for all of us whether private or public candidates."

Bungoma county director of education Pius Ng'oma said this year, Bungoma presented 75,047 candidates for KCPE and 54,859 for KPSEA.
