Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi held a telephone conversation on Friday with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

The two leaders, according to a statement, exchanged views on the Kenya-US relations and issues of mutual interest, including regional peace and security.

“They appreciated the significant progress made in strengthening the strategic bilateral partnership between Kenya and the US and reaffirmed shared commitment to advance the relations,” the statement reads.

The two also agreed to further regular consultations between the two sides at various levels.

Kenya and the US continue to enjoy long-standing relations and enduring partnership founded on the basis of mutual respect and shared prosperity.

Blinken is also said to have congratulated Mudavadi on his new role as the Foreign minister while expressing appreciation for Kenya’s significant contributions to global peace and stability.

In his first cabinet reshuffle last month, President William Ruto expanded Mudavadi’s portfolio assigning him the foreign ministry docket.

It was previously held by Alfred Mutua who was moved to Tourism.

Head of Public Service Felix Koskei said the additional role assigned to Mudavadi was aimed at promoting Kenya's national interests.

He noted that these interests will be both in the global stage and strengthening strategic partnerships with other countries through both bilateral and multilateral efforts.

The two leaders also discussed the planned deployment of police to Haiti with Blinken lauding Kenya for agreeing to lead the mission.

“Addressing the crisis in Sudan, promoting peace in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, and countering extremism in Somalia also formed part of their discussions, it adds.

The Secretary reaffirmed the shared democratic values and welcomed the deepening economic partnership between the United States and Kenya to the benefit of Kenyans and Americans alike.
