Council of Governors chairperson Ann Waiguru has commended the Senators for choosing to give Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza another chance to govern the county.

In a statement on Thursday, Waiguru who is also the Kirinyaga Governor lauded the senators for voting with a clear mind.

"To the senators representing 47 counties, thank you for voting with your conscience," She said.

Celebrating Mwangaza's triumph, Waiguru applauded her for showing a brave face during the whole impeachment trial.

"Indeed - Asiye na wake ana Mungu. It is easy to look good when you are in comfort or convenience, but those who lead in times of challenge and controversy are the true mettle of leadership," she said.

Giving her counterpart advice, the Kirinyaga county chief told Mwangaza to focus on leading Meru residents and service delivery.

"To my sister HE Governor Kawira Mwangaza, it's the courage to continue forward and with focus that counts," Waiguru said.

"God's speed to you and may the people of Meru reap 1,000 fold from your leadership," she added.

The Senate plenary which went late into Wednesday night dismissed all the charges in a vote, giving Mwangaza a new lease of life in the county leadership.

She faced charges of misappropriation and misuse of resources, nepotism, bullying, illegal appointments, contempt of court, and naming a road after her husband illegally.

Governor Mwangaza, however, denied all the charges and put up a spirited defence saying she was being victimised as a woman leader.

After the late-night vote, several women leaders showed up in Parliament to celebrate Mwangaza's triumph.

Led by Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, the women celebrated Mwangaza's survival.

Other leaders present were; Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, former nominated senator Millicent Omanga, and ex-Wajir Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi among others.

"Kaende, kaende! Kabaki, Kabaki! Governor wa Meru ni mama."

The Meru governor hugged the leaders as they celebrated her impeachment survival.

Public Service CS Moses Kuria also joined the women leaders in the celebrations.

The CS showed solidarity with Mwangaza by holding her hand as women leaders showered her with praises.

"The devil wins battles. The Lord wins the war," Kuria said in a statement on his X handle.
