A suspected thug was shot and killed in a robbery incident in Korogocho slums, Nairobi.

The suspect with two others had earlier attacked and robbed a 20-year-old man of a mobile phone and Sh5,000.

They also stabbed him before they escaped.

The victim raised the alarm, alerting police who were on patrol, prompting a chase in the Monday night incident.

Police said they managed to shoot dead one suspect while two others escaped on foot.

Police said a homemade pistol and a knife were recovered from the slain suspect.

The man who had been stabbed was rushed to hospital where he was admitted in stable condition.

The body of the suspect was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.

Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei said they have enhanced operations in the city to tame cases of insecurity.

This includes increasing police patrols and deploying more officers ahead of the festive season.

He warned there could be a spike in violent crimes in the city but pledged to increase efforts to tame the same.

"Most suspects tend to increase attacks to get money for festivities, which at times turns violent and fatal," he said.

He advised victims to always cooperate whenever attacked.

“Nothing is worth your life and therefore it is important for cooperation where one thinks he or she cannot successfully fight the attackers,” he said.

Police are investigating the cause of death of a man whose body was found in his house in Kibera Laini Saba in Taa Kubwa area.

The body of Joshua Etendi Aseka, 65, was found lying dead on the bed inside his house.

The body had no visible injuries but there was blood oozing from the mouth and some discharge from both ears, police who visited the scene said.

It is not clear for how long the body had stayed there but investigations are ongoing on the same.
