A 42-year-old casual labourer died after being hit by a falling stone at a construction site in Eastleigh, Nairobi.

Police said Vincent Matasio died on the spot after the stone hit him on the head along Eastleigh Sixth Avenue on Saturday.

He was among workers at the site where he was loading stones to a crane for delivery to the sixth floor when the incident happened at the weekend, police said.

One of the stones fell off the crane and landed on his head killing him, police and witnesses said.

Police were called to the scene and processed it before the body was moved to the mortuary.

Officials from the county government, National Construction Authority and police are investigating the tragedy.

Construction works at the site were stopped pending the ongoing probe, police said.

This is the latest such incident to happen in the city in a series at construction sites.

Police say most of the victims do not have protection gear as required. The incidents are pending under probe.

Meanwhile, police in Bondo, Siaya County are investigating an incident where an 18-year-old man allegedly hacked his elder brother to death in a dispute over food.

The form four student at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga secondary school had allegedly differed with his elder brother Brian Otieno over food before they picked a quarrel that resulted in the loss of life.

The student had prepared dinner, which they took together with his brother Brian.

And after taking dinner, the suspect decided to give some little food, which had remained to their dog, which prompted a fight.

The assailant picked a panga and hacked the elder brother to death.

Police said they are looking for the suspect for grilling and possible arraignment. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other processes.

It comes as the suspect is planning to sit for his national final examination amid plans to allow him to do it while in custody.
