Nakhumicha meets NHIF CEO, directors to discuss fund's transition

She urged the team to work on strategy aimed at drafting road map towards achieving proper transition system.

Health CS Susan Nakhumicha on Friday met with the new National Health Insurance Fund CEO Elijah Wachira.

The meeting which was also attended by the six new NHIF directors sought to discuss key issues affecting the fund including the recently assented laws.

Wachira was appointed to the NHIF board this month following a competitive and open recruitment process.

He was appointed in new changes announced by the fund's board on October 5 alongside the six directors.

During the meeting, Nakhumicha urged the team to work on a strategy aimed at drafting a road map towards achieving proper transition system.

The strategy should address various issues ranging from anxiety and uncertainty of staff, patient data, accrued debts among others.

"The CS stressed the necessity of formulating a strategic roadmap for a seamless transition, encompassing concerns like staff matters, patient data, and outstanding debts," the ministry said in a statement.

Speaking during the meeting, Wachira thanked the government for bestowing him an opportunity to lead the agency.

He pledged to do his best to deliver in a bid to contribute immensely to the transition of the Fund to the Social Health Insurance Fund.

This, he said, will help in implementation of Universal Health Coverage recently launched by President William Ruto.

Wachira expressed his gratitude for the government's trust and vowed to work diligently to facilitate the fund's transition to its next phase.

The directors present in the meeting include Hazel Koitaba who is the Director Beneficiary and Provider Management, Director Corporate Services Ibrahim Mohamed Alio and Director Internal Audit Pariken Ole Sankei.

Others include Corporation Secretary/Director Legal Services Catherine Mungania, Director Financial Services Robert Ingasira and Director Information and Communication Technology Martin Ayoo.

They include the Primary Healthcare Fund, Social Health Insurance Fund and Chronic Illness and Emergency Fund.

This will come into force on a date designated by the Health Cabinet Secretary through a notice in the Gazette.
