A suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital acting finance director Eric Maigo is fit to stand trial.

This is part of the findings so far on the woman whose age was also in dispute.

An age and mental assessment conducted at the Mathari Hospital in Nairobi confirmed she is a Kenyan adult of sound mind.

This is contrary to earlier reports that she might have been a minor.

Her parents have also told police she was born in 2003.

The woman was presented in court on September 27, 2023, and police granted 21 days to hold her as they completed their investigations.

An officer in the probe team said they are now prepared to report to the court on October 18 and state the woman is an adult and fit to stand trial.

The assessment was done on October 4, officials said.

The woman was captured on CCTV escaping from the scene of Maigo's murder on the morning of September 15 at Woodley estate, Nairobi.

She was arrested at the Olympic in Kibra a week later after efforts by detectives were backed by members of the public who provided intelligence on her whereabouts.

She has already recorded a statement with the police.

Maigo was found with 25 stab wounds at his Woodley Estate residence.

In a miscellaneous application filed by Corporal Patrick Boge, police said that she was arrested following a report of murder at Woodly annex in Kibra within the Kilimani area.

He told Milimani principal magistrate Zainab Abdul that on September 15, 2023, a report was made at Kibra police station that there was a commotion at house number 6 Woodley estate annex upper of Kibra.

He said a team of police officers from Kilimani subcounty visited the scene of crime and established that the deceased was lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds on the chest, face and neck and secured the scene of crime.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was in the company of the respondent herein before he was found murdered where she is suspected to have been attacked by the respondent who was armed with kitchen knives," the court documents show.

The police officers who visited the crime scene recovered the murder weapons.
