Trade and Industry Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has sensationally claimed that he is 'acting president'.
The CS said on Friday that in the absence of President William Ruto, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi he is the country boss.
In a jest, the CS told a gathering at the University of Eldoret that he was now the man in charge of the country's affairs in the absence of the trio.
Ruto is in the US for official duties, Gachagua in Colombia to source for coffee markets while Mudavadi jetted back into the country on Thursday night from UK.
“Do you want me to greet the president, his deputy and Musalia Mudavadi? Sasa Rais ako Marekani, Riggy G ako Colombia, Musalia ako London, na mimi ndio nimekalia…asante,” Kuria said.
As the students went into laughter, Kuria quickly assumed his seat at the dais after concluding his speech.
Contrary to Kuria's remarks, the country's constitutional and political orders does not place him anywhere among the top three.
The constitution does not envisage a vacuum in the presidency.
In the absence of the president, his deputy takes over while National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula would assume authority in case the two are away at the same time.
Mudavadi, who does not occupy a constitutional office, is also seen as a senior member of the executive and would take over government operations whenever Ruto and Gachagua are away.
Among Cabinet Secretaries, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki is ranked as most senior, just below Mudavadi.
