Gachagua mourns Capital FM scribe Sean Cardovillis, says he will be greatly missed

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has joined leaders who have mourned the death of renowned sports journalist and motorsport enthusiast Sean Cardovillis.

Gachagua said he has been saddened by the untimely death of Cardovillis, who was found dead at his home on Saturday morning.

“His wit and wide knowledge in various sports, especially motorsport, will be greatly missed,” the DP said on his social media pages.

He sent his deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues in the media and sports fraternity for the loss.

Several news outlets reported that Cardovillis was found dead at the staircase of his apartment, by a cleaner along Rhapta Road, Westlands.

Capital FM, where he worked, paid a tribute to him on their news website www.capitalfm.co.ke.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that the world of sports has lost one of its most iconic voices-Sean Cardovillis," the company said.

“The renowned sports commentator who worked here at Capital FM passed away this morning at his house in Westlands, and his family has been informed.”

Sean was highly respected for his deep understanding and knowledge of motorsport.

During this year's WRC Safari Rally Championship in Naivasha, he interviewed Ruto, who had graced the international sporting event.

In a message of condolences, Ruto said Cardovillis was an accomplished sports journalist whose impact will be missed dearly.

Nairobi Woman Rep Esther Passaris said she was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Cardovillis.

She said Cardovillis was a remarkable broadcaster whose passion for sports was truly contagious.

“His commentary brought joy to countless listeners," she said.

Passaris added that Cardovillis will be missed in the sports community.
