A Bomet-based pastor who had been missing was arrested with a 17-year-old Form 4 student in Kisii.

Police said the two were arrested while boarding a matatu headed for Kisumu.

The two were missing for days and were wanted for questioning following a complaint, police said.

The student at Ngererit Secondary School in Bomet, had been reported missing by her parents at the Mogogosiek police station in Bomet.

She is believed to have left with the pastor from the school last week. This prompted a search.

Police arrested the two following a tip-off from matatu crew operating at the Kisii bus terminal that they had spotted the 25-year-old pastor with the girl while boarding another vehicle headed for Kisumu.

Reports say the pastor had been invited to Ngererit Secondary School for sermons and afterwards, he left with the girl.

Police have been looking for them.

Their motive was not immediately known, police said.

The two were taken into custody at Nyanchwa police station.

Police said they will be moved to Mogogosiek police station in Bomet on Sunday for further action and probe.

Meanwhile, a police officer was arrested after claims he assaulted his friend in Makongeni area, Nairobi, following a disagreement.

The police constable attached to Muthithi police station in Murang’a county is also accused of selling a police digital occurrence book tablet to the complainant.

The complainant returned it to Makongeni police station after realising the gadget was a government property and he could not use it.

This angered the officer leading to him assaulting the complainant who claimed he paid him Sh5,400 for the gadget.

The complainant reported the matter to police after the March incident prompting a probe.

The officer was later traced and arrested at his workstation.

Police said he initially worked at the Makadara law courts.

The digital OBs were introduced in some police stations for a test as police embrace technology in their operations.

Police said he will be arraigned before a Makadara law court for a charge of assault causing actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the Penal Code.

The Internal Affairs Unit is still investigating him over the claims of misconduct and sale of the gadget.

Cases where police are involved in crime have been on the rise amid calls for action to stop the trend.

Police say the cases are isolated and that they are being addressed internally.
