MPs on Wednesday threatened to initiate impeachment proceedings against Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore after she failed to appear to respond to members’ questions.

Bore came under fire after she became the first Cabinet Secretary to snub the House since the re-introduction of the Minister’s question time.

Angry lawmakers accused the CS of treating the house casually led by National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi they said it is time Parliament initiate impeachment against the CS to serve as a warning to ministers on how not to treat people’s representatives.

The Ugunja MP argued that Parliament will only reclaim its authority by taking stern action against any attempt to hold the house at ransom.

“If this House wants to safeguard its independence and authority, let us indict this CS once and for all. I am more than happy to second you if you move a motion of impeachment on this CS,” Wandayi said.

“I will invite my colleagues to proceed and initiate the process of sending this CS home.”

Bore who was to respond to a number of questions from Members communicated last minute to the House explaining she was attending inauguration of the NITA board.

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung'wah termed Bore’s letter discourteous and in contempt of the house.

“None other than President William Ruto has made it clear that business of the house takes precedent over any other engagement,” Ichung’wah said.

Bore was scheduled to respond to Konoin MP Brighton Yegon’s question on the number of Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia and their residency status as well as type of employment and workstations.

Yatta MP Robert Basil had also sought clarity on the Ministry’s intention to incorporate new senior citizens into the older Persons' cash Transfer (OPTCT).
