MPs to quiz Wahome, Bore and Njeru on Wednesday

They are expected to respond to various issues affecting the country

Three Cabinet secretaries will on Wednesday respond to questions in the National Assembly regarding regarding various issues affecting the country.

Lawmakers have summoned Water, Sanitation and Irrigation CS Alice Wahome, her Labour and Social Protection counterpart Florence Bore and Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development CS Zacharia Njeru.

Wahome will respond to questions regarding collapsing dykes around Lake Kanyaboli that have caused flooding and displacement in Alego Usonga constituency and brief the House on the status of implementation of the Moi’s Bridge – Matunda Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Ikolomani constituency.

The question on the collapsing of dykes was asked by Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi while Benard Shinali, (Ikolomani) posed the question on the water and sanitation project.

Wahome will also be required to give a status update of the Naoros and Nadoto Irrigation Scheme in Turkana county pursuant to a questioned asked by Turkana Central MP Joseph Emathe.

The question time will start at 3pm.

Next on the podium will be CS Bore who members of the House want her to give an update on the welfare of Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia and the regulation of recruiting agencies.

The question was fronted by Konoin MP Brighton Yegon.

It follows numerous complaints by Kenyans working in the Gulf over claims of mistreatment by their employers and alleged negligence by Kenyan officials tasked with safeguarding their welfare. 

Bore will also be expected to give the status of various Social Protection Programmes including the Older Persons Cash Transfer Scheme, the Inua Jamii Programme, the plight of orphans, widows and widowers in the country and the eligibility of cancer survivors being registered as Persons with Disabilities.

Yegon in particular wants the CS to give a status update on what the government is doing to give support to children whose parents or guardians are serving life sentences.

Machakos Woman Rep Joyce Kamene on the other hand wants explanations regarding the effecting of the National Social Protection Policy and National Policy on orphans.

Kirinyaga MP Jane Maina wants Bore to update the House on the updating of Inua Jamii data to ensure only verified beneficiaries receive the cash while his Yatta counterpart Robert Basil wants a status update on the incorporation of new senior citizens into the Older Persons Cash Transfer (OPCT) Scheme.

Kiambu's Machua Waithaka posed the question on the eligibility of cancer survivors being registered as Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

Njeru has been asked to come prepared to explain why there are errors on Title Deeds for parcels of land in Mui Coal Basin.

The question was posed by Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi.

The CS is also expected to apprise the House on the ownership status of Kwale International Sugar Company in response to a question fronted by Saboti MP Caleb Amisi.

He is also expected to issue the status of boundaries of Laisamis constituency while Nakuru Town East wants Njeru to give status of Kazi Mtaani Project Phase 3 in 2022 in the constituency.

Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West) has tasked the Lands CS to give the status of ownership of ‘EMCO’ parcel of land in Embakasi West while Gideon Mulyungi (Mwingi Central) wants details of the contract for the High Mast Security Lighting Project in Mwingi Town.
