It's darkest before dawn! Duale reminisces his 2020 ouster

Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has reminisced about his swift ouster as National Assembly Majority leader in 2020, saying he neither harbours any grudge nor regrets.

In a strongly worded post on his social media accounts on Thursday evening, Duale said his removal from the plum position only signalled his rise.

"Verily verily, I say, it's darkest before dawn!'' Duale tweeted as he recalled how he was fired.

The then President Uhuru Kenyatta had convened a key Parliamentary Group Meeting of all elected and nominated MPs at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre.

"In retrospect, I don't hold anything against our tormentors nor do I keep regrets about the side I chose to associate with," Duale said.

He said the Kenya Kwanza camp, led by then Deputy President William Ruto, believed that the country was bigger.

The Defence CS reflected that his only mistake was to exercise his democratic right of choosing to stand on the side of "truth and transparency."

He had then decided to work with Ruto against the will of former President Kenyatta.

"And, looking back, I can't help but sigh with relief," he said.

Duale said his then seven-year tenure as the firebrand, first Majority leader of the National Assembly under article 108 of the Constitution, came to an abrupt, sad halt.

"For the record, three years ago, today, there was nothing to jubilate!" he said.

According to Duale, his ouster at the KICC was fueled by betrayal, malice and a senseless witch-hunt.

In the KICC meeting that lasted less than 30 minutes, Duale was axed and replaced by then-Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya.
