President William Ruto is scheduled to visit Kirinyaga County on Tuesday to spearhead the launch of a housing project and the opening of Kerugoya General Hospital.

Last month, Kirinyaga County demolished old buildings belonging to the defunct County Council of Kirinyaga to pave the way for the project at Kerugoya town.

State House press secretary Emmanuel Talam confirmed to the Star that the President will be in Kirinyaga.

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru recently said the newly built hospital (Kerugoya general hospital ) will offer specialized medical services to the residents.

"The county government has built a modern hospital at Kerogoya which will improve health services in the county. The date for the launch has been set and confirmed," Waiguru said.

She said the 356-bed capacity facility is expected to reduce inpatient congestion at the hospital.

The governor added that the medical complex has now upgraded the hospital from level 4 to level 5, saying the hospital has brought critical services nearer and residents will no longer travel long distances to seek treatment.

"The hospital is of National Standards, and comes with a Cancer Centre unit, High Dependency Unit ( HDU) Accidents Centre, Paediatric and Maternal wards," Waiguru noted.

Gatanga MP Edward Muriu also said President Ruto is set to traverse the Mount Kenya region, launching mega projects.

He noted that the Kenya Kwanza government is set to transform the people by promoting their economic activities.

He singles out the housing project, noting that President Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua are much passionate about it.

He said that Kenya faces a significant housing deficit, with a large portion of the population unable to access affordable and decent housing.

“The housing project aims to bridge this gap by providing affordable housing options for Kenyans, particularly those in low-income brackets. This initiative aligns with the government's commitment to improving the living standards of its citizens," he said.

Among those expected to accompany the president includes Rigathi Gachagua (Deputy president) and MPs Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu), Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang'wa, among others.
