At least 16 people were killed in a series of nationwide protests that were called in March, a report by Amnesty International indicates. 

Of these, 12 were shot by police while the rest were a result of mob injustice.

More than 30 others were injured in the incidents which have been blamed on police action.

Amnesty International Kenya and Human Rights Watch expressed concern that nearly two months after the nationwide protests, insufficient action has been taken to hold police officers and their commanders accountable for the disproportionate use of force in the killings of at least 12 people, shooting and beating of many others.]

DJ Brownskin arrested

Michael Macharia Njiiri popularly known as DJ Brownskin was arrested from a popular club in Kasarani, Nairobi on June 1, 2023  for investigation of aiding suicide contrary to Section 225 (c) of the Penal Code.

This is after police obtained an order from the Makadara magistrate's court to hold him for seven days to complete investigations.

He is being investigated for the offence in connection with the death of his wife, Sharon Njeri, 24, who died between the nights of July 29 and 30, 2022.

Police are holding a popular Kenyan entertainer, who was captured in a controversial video watching his wife, Sharon Njeri die after taking poison at their Nairobi home.

Gaucho's arrest 

Calvin Okoth alias Gaucho was on May 29 arrested outside City Hall by undercover police.

He had arrived outside City Hall and was engaging his supporters in a chit-chat when three undercover cops arrived and asked him to accompany them.

It emerged police had been looking for him since Saturday, May 27

Teams were mobilized and ordered to look for him.

However, Gaucho switched off his mobile phones and went into hiding.

Mandera National Police Reservist shot dead 

Police are hunting down gunmen suspected to be al Shabaab terrorists who shot and killed a National Police Reservist in the Guticha area, Mandera North.

The body of Mohamed Mohamed Abdullah who was popularly known as as general in the area was found Monday morning after the shooting.

Residents said the gunmen trailed the deceased to his house where they shot and killed him at 2 am.

Elephant tusks recovered 

Two men were on Tuesday arrested and 52 kilograms of elephant tusks valued at Sh5.3 million recovered in an operation in Nyeri Town.

Police with Kenya Wildlife Service officials ambushed the two merchants as they tried to sell the ivory to a man who had posed as a potential buyer.

Police say they want to establish the source of the ten pieces of ivory, some of which seemed a few days old.

The two were expected in court on Wednesday to face charges of possession of a wildlife trophy Contrary to Section 93(4) of the Wildlife Conservation and Management Act of 2013.

This comes amid ongoing operations targeting poaching in the country.

Man kills girlfriend during fights

Police are looking for a suspect in connection with the killing of a 33-year-old woman in Kamulu, Nairobi.

The body of the woman identified as only Doreen was discovered in the man’s house in a pool of blood long after the Tuesday morning incident.

Neighbours said they heard her scream for help and when they responded they found her dead with wounds in the stomach.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are looking for one William Papai for grilling over the death.

Minor's death 

A two-year-old child in Eastleigh, Nairobi, died after rubbles from an adjacent 10-storey building struck him while he was watching television.

Abdisalam Mohamed was watching cartoon in his room when the incident happened.

According to Kelvin Nyagah, the caretaker of an adjacent building, the child was sitting on the bed inside his parent’s house when he was hit on the head and chest by three bricks that fell from the building, which is under construction Saturday, May 27.

Theft of fertilisers 

Eight people have been arrested after more than 4,000 bags of government-subsidized fertiliser worth Sh16 million went missing.

The 4,480 bags had been dispatched from the Kenya National Trade Corporation warehouse in Mombasa and were destined for the bread-basket regions of Western and North Rift.

The subsidised NPK fertiliser sells at Sh3,500, the Yara variety at Sh4,050 while DAP and other brands are retailing at Sh5,600 per 50kg bag.
