Allies of retired President Uhuru Kenya in Jubilee have now warned of street protests over what they said were sustained efforts by Kenya Kwanza to kill multiparty democracy.

Led by former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni, the group said Kenya Kwanza is undermining multiparty democracy by interfering with affairs parties in Azimio la Umoja.

“If need be, we are going to the streets. We are going to tell our members their party is under attack and they need to come out to protect it. We are going to tell them to come out in large numbers because the Office of Registrar of Political Parties is not going to help them,” he said.

Kioni spoke at the ORPP offices in Westlands after delivering resolutions of the party’s NDC on Monday.

“We have delivered the decisions of the NDC. We have a court order that allowed the meeting to take place,” he stated.

A team allied to Uhuru on Monday held National Delegates Convention and expelled several NEC members.

Uhuru expelled a dozen officials in an attempt to reconstitute the NEC dominated by President William Ruto loyalists.

The Uhuru-backed camp axed Kanini Kega, the Acting Secretary General according to the changes.

The meeting also removed Sabina Chege whom the Kioni-led group named as acting Party Leader replacing Uhuru.

Addressing the press on Tuesday, Kioni said they have also seen a letter from the ORPP indicating that they have been expelled as Jubilee members.

“There is mischief in the letter because it was supposed to be delivered before the NDC so as to nullify the decisions of the meeting,” he said.

“They are doing everything possible to snatch the party from Uhuru Kenyatta,” he added.

Kioni said he hoped the ORPP is not being used by individuals to kill multi-party democracy.

He said the office has become a point of interest for Azimio, same as the IEBC and the National Treasury.

“It is now time for us to help ourselves and this we will do by going to the streets. Kama mbaya mbaya,” he added.

He added that ORPP has failed to live to its mandate of entrenching democracy in the country.

“We have done the legal bit. It is now time to do the political bit,” Kioni added.

Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has stopped the Registrar of Political Parties from upholding the expulsion of Jeremiah Kioni from the Jubilee party.

It came hot on the heels of approval by ORPP of the resolutions by the Jubilee Disciplinary Committee.

In a motion filed under a certificate of urgency, the tribunal issued conservatory orders stopping any changes.

According to the PPDT chairperson, Desma Nungo, the matter has been set for mention on May 31.

Anne Nderitu said the party followed due process in expelling the party's secretary general Kioni and vice chair Murathe.
