Kenya Environmental Health and Public Health workers on Monday held a joint press conference regarding a court ruling touching on the registration of the Public Health Union.

Speaking at the Milimani Labor Relations Court, the union called on the Labour CS to intervene so that their certificate can be issued to them.

The court orders are also said to have been directed to the Registrar of Trade Unions.

"We reached out to Beatrice Mathenge, registrar of Trade Unions but she claimed to lack stationary to issue our certificate," the unions said.

This follows court orders given last year in November in a mandate for them to have their union.

They however say the court order has been blatantly ignored and not defected.

Through their secretary General Brown Achira, they added that the government is investing more in curative measures and neglecting its role of employing public health officers.

"The government has neglected its role of employing more public health officers around the country," Achira said.

The union also claimed public health officers are not well equipped and do not have access to sampling tools.

They said they have been denied their right yet there is no appeal in court denying them a union.

Achira said if their certificate will not be issued within 48 hours they will hold a peaceful protest.

They will camp at the office of the Registrar of Trade Unions until action is taken.
