Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka has convened what his allies have termed as a declarative meeting amid reports of plans for a 2027 stab at the presidency.

The Friday meeting at Kalonzo's expansive farm is expected to be attended by top Azimio leaders including opposition leader Raila Odinga.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of pressure from the Ukambani turf for Kalonzo to inherit Raila's constituency and become the Azimio flagbearer in 2027.

"Time has come to receive the baton," a senior ally of Kalonzo told the Star in confidence.

"We shall sit down with our people and listen to them on what they want ahead of 2027 polls."

Kalonzo has always summoned key Ukambani leaders to his Yatta home when making landmark political declarations in the past including his decision to work with Azimio.

Among the leaders set to grace the Yatta farm meeting include grassroots leaders, MCAs, MPs, senators and opinion leaders from all three Ukambani counties.

A section of Ukambani leaders have been urging Kalonzo to run for the country's top seat in 2027 saying he has sacrificed a lot for others.

Kalonzo's first stab at the presidency was in 2007 when he ran on the ODM-K ticket but came third behind then-President Mwai Kibaki and Raila.

In 2013, Kalonzo brokered a political deal with Raila under the Cord Coalition in which he deputised the then-opposition leader.

In 2017, Kalonzo was also Raila's running mate for the second time running under the Nasa coalition but lost to President Uhuru like in 2013.

In the 2022 polls, Kalonzo was earmarked to be the Chief Cabinet Secretary in the Azimio coalition lineup but lost to President William Ruto.
