Government officials who sold contaminated sugar for public consumption should be arrested and charged, lawyer Miguna Miguna has said.

Miguna also said anyone who stole or attempted to steal the funds at Kemsa should be arrested and charged with the crime.

"They should be arrested and prosecuted and the public money they stole or proceeds they obtained be reverted to the public without interest," he said in a tweet.

"They should neither be on half salary nor have the chance of reinstatement."

Miguna said this is the only way to end organised theft in public offices.

His tweet comes after President William Ruto sacked the Health PS and the entire board of the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority.

It also comes following the move by the President to crack the whip on 27 officials over the release of condemned sugar to the public that had been declared unfit for human consumption in 2018.

The sugar, which is said to have contained traces of copper, arrived at the Port of Mombasa in 2018 but was condemned by the Kenya Bureau of Standards as harmful for human consumption.
