Man dies by suicide in Githunguri as cases rise

A 61-year-old man was found dead in his house after a suspected suicide in Githunguri, Kiambu County.

Police said James Kimani Kigatu’s body was found dangling from the roof with a nylon rope tied around his neck in the sitting room in Getei village.

The scene was visited and documented before the body was moved to the mortuary after the May 7 incident.

In Umande location, Laikipia, the body of one Austin Maina Mumbi, 18, was found dangling from a tree with a rope tied around his neck within their compound.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known and the body was moved to Nanyuki Teaching and referral hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

In Kaloleni, Kilifi, the body of Charo Chengo Ngala aged 67 was found dangling from a tree with a rope tied around his neck at his farm within Nguluweni village.

The motive behind the May 7 incident is yet to be known. The body was moved to the mortuary.

In Bangladesh, Makueni, one Duncan Mwania Joseph, 45, was found dangling from the roof of his house with a wire tied around his neck.

Police said a suicide note was recovered at the scene.

The body was moved to a local mortuary pending autopsy.

Cases of suicide have been on the rise.

Suicide is a leading cause of death nowadays, officials say.

The World Health Organization says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties.

Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.

WHO rates suicide as a serious global public health issue that is among the top 20 leading causes of death worldwide.
