Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta has landed in Bujumbura, Burundi for regional talks geared towards restoring peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The 11th Summit of Heads of State and Governments of the signatory Countries of the Framework Agreement for Peace, Security and Cooperation for DRC and the Region will be held on Saturday.
Uhuru is the Facilitator of the East African Community (EAC)-led Nairobi Peace Process.
The meeting comes as the East African Community completes troop deployment into eastern DRC.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi left the country on Friday to represent President William Ruto at the meeting.
The key objective of the meeting will be to draw a roadmap that will facilitate the next steps for the identification of activities to be carried out by stakeholders.
The meeting will seek to revitalise the Peace, Security, and cooperation framework and strengthen its effectiveness in addressing peace and security challenges in the region.
“The meeting will also give an update on the security co-operation; activities of the Contact and Coordination Group on non-military measures and its Operational Cell,” a statement from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary said.
It said there will be briefings on initiatives to support women and youth agenda in the region.
