Eliud Wekesa popularly known as 'Yesu wa Tongaren' has come out to condemn the Shakahola deaths.

Wekesa, who is the leader of the New Jerusalem sect has instead called on the main suspect in the tragedy, Paul Mackenzie to carry his own cross.

He further said Mackenzie has been used by the devil as an agent, saying his actions have made Kenyans insult the word of God.

“Paul Mackenzie should carry his own cross, he has become a devil's hook so that the word of God can be insulted by human beings and by Kenyans,” he said.

“As Jesus of Tongaren my message is and I repeat, Mackenzie should carry his own cross just as he was found committing evil and he will not be the only one, all these things will be uncovered across the world,” he said.

He said he does not recognise Mackenzie as a preacher, adding that a true servant of God cannot kill.

This comes even as Mackenzie was rearrested on Tuesday immediately after he had secured his release.

The DCI officers descended on the preacher and his six accomplices who had been released by the Malindi court.

They were driven off in two land cruisers under the escort of two police vehicles.

Homicide detectives have been searching for graves on the 800-acre piece of land belonging to Mackenzie since last week.

The cult leader was arrested on April 14 following a tip-off that suggested the existence of shallow graves containing the bodies of some of his followers.
