Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Friday graced his first national drama festival since he took office.

Machogu arrived at Shimo la Tewa school where gala festivals are ongoing.

The festivals began on April 20 and will end on April 29.

Machogu was accompanied by Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang, KICD CEO Charles Ongondo, and Director General Elyas Abdi.

A few teams will be picked to present at the State House in Mombasa. President William Ruto will attend the event.

The festival brought together ECD, primary, secondary schools, and colleges.

Items presented range from play, narratives, spoken word, choral verse, solo verse, creative cultural dances, and mimes.

This is the first drama festival held in the country since the covid 19 break.

Since the onset of Covid-19, the Ministry of Education suspended all co-curricular activities in schools, from primary, and secondary to higher learning institutions.

On November 2021, drama, music, and sports activities resumed in schools after taking a break for almost one and a half years.

On June 2022, drama and music festivals resumed in institutions of higher learning, two years since closure.

The first festival was held at Kenyatta University's Kitui campus bringing together seven universities.
