- Gachagua said the Government is on course in rolling out development programmes in our bid to make arable the vast lands in the Northern region.
- The Deputy President said the solution to the food security challenges Kenya is facing lies in the Northern region.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said it is important that the Northern parts of Kenya be opened for development to boost their growth.
Gachagua was speaking on Tuesday in Nairobi where he was presiding over the NEDI (North and North Eastern Development) Leadership Consultative Forum at the Kenya School of Government
"The North and North Eastern Region is a critical, potential, and strategic region for Kenya's National Security and Development," Gachagua said.
The Deputy President said the solution to the food security challenges Kenya is facing lies in the Northern region.
Gachagua said NEDI is an initiative being coordinated by his office.
He added that it is an implementation and support mission by the World Bank that seeks to accelerate development programmes in Northern Kenya.
"For a long time, this region has received minimal development support, and this intervention by the World Bank will go a long way to enhance the gains that have been made by the government, development partners and communities in the areas," Gachagua said.
He said opening up the region with critical infrastructure is the only way to uplift the livelihoods of the people.
Gachagua said the Government is on course in rolling out development programmes in a bid to make arable the vast lands in the Northern region.
"Working with the development partners led by the World Bank, we will make sure these programmes and other interventions under the NEDI are successfully implemented," he pledged.
He gave assurance that the leadership promise of Kenya Kwanza under President William Ruto remains steadfast on the course of creating a gateway for social equity for all Kenyans.
