Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has cautioned individuals who plan to loot despite the opposition calling off their protests.

According to the DP, security officers are on high alert, should anyone decide to proceed with the looting.

He added that anyone found breaking the law will be prosecuted.

"Aware that hooligans who were set to take advantage of the chaos to loot and steal could still be prepared to continue, our security officers are vigilant and on full alert.

"All lawbreakers will be swiftly apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law," Gachagua stated.

The second in command urged all Kenyans to resume their businesses with vigour and alacrity.

"I am happy our economy which had started showing signs of recovery is now back on track."

Gachagua further said he was amazed by the resilience of Kenyans as some of them braved the heavy downpour to attend to daily duties.

"Time Check: 5.30 am as I drove through Nairobi City on my way to work early this morning, I was amazed by the resilience of the Kenyan people. Despite the heavy downpour, Kenyans are briskly walking to work as drivers beat the traffic jam and drainage challenges," he said.

His remarks came hours after he commended opposition leader Raila Odinga for calling off planned demonstrations.

He said by agreeing to dialogue, the former Prime Minister had demonstrated statesmanship.

"I salute Hon Raila Odinga for calling off demonstrations and violence and choosing to pursue his issues in Parliament in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of Kenya. That is statesmanship," Gachagua said.

On Sunday, President William Ruto extended an olive branch to Raila and proposed for bi-partisan parliamentary process on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners’ recruitment.

They had among other demands asked to be included in the recruitment process of IEBC Commissioners.
