The High Court has deferred the plea taking for Eastleigh cop Rashid Ahmed.

Rashid is facing two counts of murder for the death of two boys in Eastleigh five years ago

Justice Diana Mochache deferred the plea to allow her to go through the file before she gives directions on plea taking.

The file was transferred to her court by Justice Kanyi Kimondo who is away on leave.

Justice Mochache has said she has just seen the file and needs time to go through the file to see pending issues before giving any directions.

She has also extended the police bond issued to Rashid by Muthaiga police station.

The case will be mentioned on March 29 for directions on how the matter will proceed

The defence lawyer Danstan Omari has told the court that there is a pending application challenging jurisdiction of the court to take plea and that should be disposed of before the plea is taken

However, the prosecution led by State Counsel Gikui Gichuhi was of the opinion that plea should be taken first then the other issues to come later

The court has said the status quo is to be maintained as it retires to go read the file.

Judge Mochache has assured parties including victims that justice will be served on all parties but she can’t take plea or hear an application today until she reads the file and proceedings by judge Kimondo.
