Calls for dialogue have continued to be made as the country continues to witness mayhem as a result of protests.

Erick Komolo, a lawyer and a researcher has called on President William Ruto to be a symbol of unity and reach out to the opposition to iron out their grievances.

He said demonstrations happening on Monday in Nairobi are just symptoms of what is going to happen going forward if consultations don’t take place.

He further noted that what Azimio is doing is not unique to Kenya adding that currently, Julius Malema is mobilising people in Pretoria, people in Tunisia are rising against their president while Nigerians are talking about election reforms.

“As we speak Kenyans are grappling with serious issues around the cost of living which of course has both domestic and international dimensions so the law in Kenya allows demonstrations,” he said.

“The President since he is the symbol here needs to aggressively engage his opponents on the other side both privately, informally and officially; all these will be avoided if they engage."

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui said the government should not demonise the demonstrations as Azimio supporters are acting within the provisions of the Constitution.

He said every person has a right to assemble, demonstrate, picket and present petitions to public authorities.

“Instead of the police commander walking around with rungus he should arm himself with the Constitution so that he knows what it says. This is the supreme law of the land, not the rungus they are carrying,” Mbui said.
