Learning will soon be paralyzed in public universities if the government fails to release capitation, The university Academic Staff Union has said.

UASU has decried the lack of funds saying dons are suffering.

UASU Organizing secretary Onesmus Mutio highlighted the plight of lectures, calling for urgent action.

"If nothing is done we will down our tools. Dons across all public universities are crying because of this situation," Mutio told the Star.

Mutio explained that the delay had never happened before saying salaries are about to begin piling up for months.

In most occasions, dons threaten to down tools over unsuccessful CBA negotiations.

"Since we were employed this has never happened and it can get worse than this. It is a very low moment for us," he said.

Mutio said with students having reported back home for mid-term break, lecturers will not be able to pay school fees for their children because of the delay.

He warned that this situation could give students a negative perception of the need to work hard.

"A child will wonder why his father or mother who is a professor is unable to provide for their needs despite having all that education background," he said.

In a letter addressed to Education CS Ezekiel Machogu on March 14, dons said they will not tolerate any delays.

“The union condemns in the strongest terms possible the consistent delays in the release of capitation and salaries,” the statement reads.

The statement was signed by the Universities's Academic Staff Union Secretary General Constantine Wasonga.

Wasonga said the delay has caused embarrassment and disrespect to the academic staff.

“Take notice that if the capitation and salaries are not released immediately the union shall call on all its members to protest,” Wasonga said.

The SG explained that lecturers had not been paid even up to the 14th of this month
