On the radar: Army commander in North Rift to help in banditry fight

Key activities and events lined up for today.

In Summary
  • President William Ruto is expected to unveil the list of successful candidates who applied for the Chief Administrative Secretary positions.
  • Matiangi attended a meeting called by Education Cabinet Ezekiel Machogu to discuss regional development.

The Commander Kenya Army, Lt Gen Peter Njiru is the senior military officer to visit troops under the Multi-agency operation in the North Rift, geared towards ending banditry.

He toured parts of Kainuk in Turkana County, Tot in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Chemolingot in Baringo County and Kirimon in Laikipia County Saturday.

This comes ahead of a planned operation in some areas in the region.

“This served as a morale booster to the troops in a bid to remain vigilant, alert and dedicated as they continue with their selfless service in flushing out banditry in their areas of responsibility,” the military said in a statement on Sunday.

Chief Administrative Secretary

President William Ruto is expected to unveil the list of successful candidates who applied for the Chief Administrative Secretary positions.

Last week, the Public Service Commission handed the final list of successful CAS applicants to the President after winding up interviews following a five-day marathon.

PSC had in February shortlisted 224 candidates for the interviews.

Matiang'i, Machogu meeting

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi attended a meeting called by Education Cabinet Ezekiel Machogu to discuss regional development.

The Sunday evening meeting was attended by 11 elders and SDA pastors at the Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) in Karen.

CEMASTEA is a public institution under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST).

Prison reforms

The Government has planned a major transformation at prison facilities after the correctional department launched an initiative seeking to ensure the living conditions of prisoners are improved.

In December 2022, Ruto appointed former Chief Justice David Maraga to chair a 23-member task force to oversee the improvement of reforms for members of the National Police Service and Kenya Prisons Service.

Last month, the term was extended to incorporate the National Youths Service.
