Two days after a row of the suspension of Meru University Vice Chancellor Romanus Odhiambo, the council has been replaced.

In a gazette notice, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu appointed the new council members with effect from March 10.

"Under subsection, Jane Kiringai will be the council chairperson for three years," the notice reads.

Other appointed council members are Janet Afandi Ominde, Martin Kinoti, Jacob Kwaba, Lucy Rimanto Ndonket and Sylvester Kibbiwott Kinyor.

Kiringai replaces former council chair Bosire Mwebi who had overseen the suspension of VC Odhiambo on February 27.

The new council replaces Muriira M’Mbwiria, Stephen Kimani, Dick Waswa, Pauline Jeruto, Naomi Kipuri, Paul Mungai, and Damaris Nyasuguta (Treasury).

Machogu had said in two days from March 7, the council’s term came to an end.

“The council's term comes to a lapse on March 9. The ministry is taking necessary steps to constitute a successor council,” Machogu said, in a statement.

Before their dismissal, Machogu directed the Bosire Mwebi-led council to reinstate Odhiambo saying his suspension had ill motives.

“The ministry directs the university council to rescind the decision to send Odhiambo on terminal leave and to appoint an acting VC,” Machogu said.

Machogu directed that the council ensures the embattled VC resumes his duties.

“The university council is directed to facilitate the resumption of Odhiambo as VC with immediate effect, in any case before the closure of business on March,7,” he said.
