Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has said it is only a commission of inquiry on state capture that can help end the rampant looting of public funds.

Kabando alleged that some of the masterminds are still in power while others have exited and ought to be brought to book.

He urged President William Ruto to urgently form the commission so that impunity can end.

“Ruto has a chance to make history happen; only a commission of inquiry can resolve this mess and end impunity,” he said.

In his manifesto, Ruto had promised to form the commission within 30 days of taking over power.

The commission, he said, would look into what he termed as a conflict of interest in government.

But, speaking during his first media interview early this year, Ruto has been forced to go slow on implementing it since he has more ‘pressing’ issues, which include sorting the economy.

He said diverting his energy towards creating the commission is likely to distract him from his cause.

He, however, maintained that the judicial commission will eventually be formed.

“Our plate is full, we have to balance between sorting out the economy, which we are almost in the red, or swinging this big thing that will drain our energy. However, I want to promise you that, that story will be told,” Ruto said.
