National Union of Water and Sewerage Employees General Secretary Elijah Otieno Awach has been charged with forging signatures.

According to the charge sheet, Awach, on February 12, 2021, in Nairobi with intent to defraud, forged a signature on National Executive committee minutes purporting it to have been signed by Ahmed Bashir Mohammed.

He was charged with a second count of uttering a false document.

The court heard Awach knowingly and fraudulently uttered a false document namely National Executive committee minutes purporting it to be genuine minutes signed by Bashir.

He allegedly committed the offence on February 19, 2021, at the Cooperative Bank, Buruburu branch in Nairobi.

He pleaded not guilty before Milimani chief magistrate Esther Kimilu and pleaded for lenient bond terms.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh 200,000.

The prosecution has listed six witnesses to testify in the case.
