Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria on Thursday revealed plans by the government to come up with a shopping mall dubbed 'Kenya Square'

In the poster, the CS said the 'mall' will be strictly for products produced in Kenya.

Kenyan traders are expected to book their stalls, as it will be on first come, first serve basis.

The poster further revealed that Kenya Square has 17 acres of space. 

The new square will be supported by the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry (MITI), Department of Business Reforms and Transformation (DBRT) and  Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA).

Following the announcement, Kenyans online have since shared their views on the initiative, which has since received praise and criticism in equal measures. 

Others say the move was brought by the government to shut down China Square completely. 

Senator Beatrice Akinyi asked the CS if it was a must for the government to shut down China Square for Kenya Square to thrive. 

"Not a bad idea. But my only question to our good CS Kuria is, must they shut down China Square for Kenya Square to thrive? Well, it is essential for him to understand and become mature enough to realize that blowing off others' candles would never make one's candle shine brighter," she tweeted. 

Bravin Yuri alleged the government has been overtaxing local manufacturing industries and now mock the country with Kenya Square shenanigans.

"You cannot tell us to Buy Kenya, Build Kenya when you are importing Police Uniforms that can be made locally. In fact, you have been around killing local manufacturing industries with hefty taxes and now mock us with this Kenya Square shenanigans," he tweeted.
