LGBTQ issues should not be discussed since doing so is an affront to God, Lurambi MP Titus Khamala.

Khamala slammed the proponents of homosexuality on his Twitter page on Thursday.

His remarks follow a discussion sparked by a recent Supreme Court verdict that allowed the National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission to be registered as a legitimate non-governmental organization.

The court found that, while homosexuality is illegal in Kenya, the community's right to the association cannot be denied.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Queer group has been fighting for recognition in the country, although Khamala has stated that he is opposed to the idea.

"Queer refers to something that is extremely abnormal," Khamala said.

"As a bible school student, I've also had the opportunity to perform active ministry in the United States and Kenya for the past 28 years, during which time I've seen a lot. What I can tell now is that this type of issue begins small and grows to become the elephant in the room."

The politician cautioned that if the situation was not handled properly, it may snowball into a national calamity.

"When such things are permitted to happen, the hand of God is taken from the nation. We are looking at a disaster, and God's favour is likely to be taken from our midst if we do not act," Khamala said.

He said promoting same-sex partnerships constituted blasphemy considering that God had a reason for creating both males and females.

"We must comprehend that God created both men and women during the creation process. Adam was placed to sleep, and a rib from him was taken to form Eve. God did not make a second man from the rib," he said.

"I do not believe in the theory of evolution. That can be presented in our curriculum as a fairy tale, but it is not where we originated from. Both males and females were created by God. He made us in his likeness."

This comes only a week after Homabay Town MP George Peter Kaluma wrote to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula to express his intention to introduce legislation that would outlaw homosexuality and its promotion in the country.

In his letter, the ODM MP said he intends to bring legislation that will criminalize and propose punishment for homosexuals and others involved in unnatural sexual acts.

“I intend to bring a legislation to criminalize and punish homosexuality and other unnatural acts and to further criminalize the promotion of such acts,” the letter read.

“The proposed law intends to further the provisions of article 45(2) of the constitution of Kenya and to protect the family will not only consolidate all existing laws relating to unnatural sexual acts but also increase the penalty for those convicted of engaging or promoting the acts to imprisonment for life or commensurate sentence.”
