The Kiambu assembly has approved five members of the county executive committee who were earlier rejected during vetting.

The members of the committee were approved during a low-key exercise on Friday afternoon.

Governor Kĩmani Wamatangi last year suffered a blow after the assembly approved only five, leaving the rest and urged the governor to submit a list of other candidates who are qualified.

The MCAs said the five were rejected for not demonstrating knowledge of the topical, administrative and technical issues affecting their dockets.

The nominees are Nancy Kirumba who was nominated for the position of finance, ICT, and economic planning, Margaret Waithira in the docket of administration and public services and Salome Wainaina for housing, physical planning, municipal administration, and urban development.

Wilfred Mwenda for Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives Development docket and Dr Elias Maina in the department of Health Services were rejected.

Speaking to Star, Kiambu Speaker Charles Thiong’o confirmed the the a special meeting and the approval of the CEC members.

Thiong’o said  the ministers will now wait to be sworn in by Governor Wamatangi on a day that will be communicated.

“On Friday, we had a special sitting with assembly members and approved the five CECM members who were earlier rejected,” Thiong’o said.

In December, five cabinet ministers were sworn-in during a low-key activity that was conducted by Kiambu chief magistrate Emily Ominde and witnessed by county Secretary Martin Njogu.

A Kiambu MCA who sought anonymity told this writer that the approval of rejected county ministers was discussed two weeks ago when the governor met MCAs after they had stormed his office in a peaceful protest.

He said that the governor and MCAs discussed a wide range of issues and they agreed to work together.

“This issue to approve CEC members was discussed a few weeks ago after we held a meeting with the governor and we agreed to end our differences and work together,"he said.

Kiamwangi MCA Kung’u Smart has urged assembly leaders to work together and fulfil the promises they made to Wanjiku.

He noted that both executive and legislature should now work together in unity and peace.

He rallied all elected leaders to work together as a unit and ensure Kiambu county leads as an example in service and development.
