Water CS Alice Wahome has pledged to improve the provision of water in Kisii and Nyamira counties.

Speaking on Thursday, the CS said the government will rehabilitate the boreholes in the area and also ensure residents are well-trained in maintaining them.

Wahome was meeting a delegation of leaders from the two counties led by Kisii Governor Simba Arati.

She said her ministry "looks into ensuring that there is a better provision of water services in the two counties due to the rapid urbanisation."

The CS said she will work with the county governments to fast-tracking the projects.

"I have also encouraged leaders to champion water harvesting in every household ahead of the long rains," she said.

The Water CS further urged local leaders to plant alternative trees of economic value other than the eucalyptus which she said depletes water resources.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, Water and Sanitation PS Paul Rono, Nyaribari Chache MP Japheth Nyakundi were some of the leaders present.
