Three children were killed in two separate fire incidents in Nairobi.

Several structures were destroyed in the incidents reports in Kayole and California areas, police said.

The first incident happened in Kayole where a fire broke out in a kitchen of a residential house and spread to the bedrooms killing a two and half-year-old boy.

The boy identified as Innocent Baraka was sleeping in the house when the fire broke out at the weekend as the parents left for errands.

Police say several other properties were destroyed in the incident and the cause of the fire is yet to be known.

Police and fire brigade officials said most of the scenes are difficult to access due to a lack of roads or poor ones in the areas.

In California, two children were killed in a fire incident.

The victims were siblings and were sleeping in their house when the incident happened, police said.

The mother of the children Judy Mbithe Mwangi aged 21 years rushed out of her house crying for help saying her children aged one and a half and six months were trapped therein.

Locals rushed for help and established the remains of Aisha Mugarisa Lugangi aged one and a half years were in one of the rooms.

Everlyne Wanjiku Lugangi, aged six weeks, sustained serious burns and was rushed to Mother and Child Hospital where she also succumbed while being treated.

Police said the cause of the fire and the value of property destroyed is yet to be established.

In Buruburu, four members of a family sustained serious injuries after a gas cylinder exploded and destroyed property.

The owner of the house told police she ignited the 13-kilogramme cylinder when it exploded causing the fire.

Neighbours rushed to her rescue and contained the spread of the fire.

The injured were attended to a local hospital and are in stable condition, police said.
