Sports CS Ababu Namwamba has called on the Auditor General to conduct an audit of all government funded projects under the ministry.

Namwamba on Thursday met the Nancy Gathungu and invited her to ascertain the value of the projects and expose any mismanagement of funds.

“The CS has been irked by the state of many stadia, which received huge funding from GoK,” the ministry said in a tweet.

“The AG assured the CS that her officers would move with speed to undertake the audit as requested. The CS has announced a zero tolerance to corruption in his tenure at the helm of the ministry,” it added.

The meeting came barely hours after the CS said all stadiums in Kenya will be audited to identify those that are substandard and pinpoint thieves of public money.

The audits will be completed in 60 days, Namwamba said.

He spoke during an inspection of the stadium in preparation for Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1.

The CS said those found guilty of misusing government funds for stadiums will be held accountable.

He said Embu Moi Stadium is in a deplorable condition and condemned the previous government for spending millions of shillings to come up with such substandard structures.

The Embu Moi Stadium has been a matter of concern over the years due to poor facilities.

It suffers poor drainage, poor playing surface and incomplete changing rooms, making it unfit for purpose of hosting national events.
