Health CS Susan Wafula has urged Kenyans to observe good personal hygiene practices during the festive season.

Wafula spoke while briefing the media on her Ministry's achievements over the last one hundred days on Thursday.

She said increased activities and interaction during the festive season could increase the rate of transmission of infectious diseases especially COVID-19, Cholera and the Ebola.

“We are cognizant of the fact that there will be increased movement of people, with many travelling as families for reunions and social gatherings both locally and internationally,” said the CS.

The CS said the government has not only put in place measures to mitigate the spread of epidemic-prone diseases, but also reduce the number of Cholera cases and potential fatalities.

Among the measure are the issuance of a cholera alert to all healthcare workers, highlighting the importance of early detection, confirmation and management of suspected cases.

This will be done through coordination with the whole government and a multi-agency approach.

Wafula called on the public to ensure frequent hand washing and sanitization at all times.

She also encouraged the wearing of facemasks in enclosed spaces and urged them to go to the nearest designated health facilities to get vaccinated against Covid-19 or get a booster dose.

She further urged County Governments and all other stakeholders to enhance risk communication and community engagement on Covid-19 and Cholera to effect social behaviour change.

“Everyone has a role to play in creating a safe environment for all of us,” the CS noted.
